Whelp that was quick. Icon Janet Jackson issued an apology through her representative after making inaccurate statements regarding Vice President Kamala Harris’ racial identity, claiming Harris “is not Black.”
Oh … Through her rep, huh? Got it.
ICYKI, in an interview with The Guardian published on Saturday, Jackson remarked, “She’s not Black. That’s what I heard. That she’s Indian. Her father’s white. That’s what I was told. I mean, I haven’t watched the news in a few days. I was told that they discovered her father was white.”
Can’t make this stuff up.
However, Kamala Harris is indeed Black. Like, her father, Donald Harris, is a Jamaican-American economist who made history as the first Black scholar to secure a tenured position in Stanford’s economics department.
Harris has consistently spoken about her Black identity throughout her political career. For example, when asked in a previous interview if she had ever smoked marijuana, Harris humorously replied, “Half my family’s from Jamaica, are you kidding me?”
In addition to her Black heritage, Harris is also of Indian descent. Her late mother, Shyamala Gopalan, was a prominent medical scientist originally from Chennai, India, and worked at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
When it comes to the heart of this nonsensical talking point, while speaking at the National Association of Black Journalists’ annual convention in Chicago last month, Trump stated, “I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black and now she wants to be known as Black. I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?”
With this clarification, Janet Jackson is now aware that Kamala Harris is proudly both.
Well, glad that’s all cleared up. Insert eye roll emoji. The post Janet Jackson Apologizes For Weird Statements on VP Kamala Harris Ethnicity first appeared on .The post Janet Jackson Apologizes For Weird Statements on VP Kamala Harris Ethnicity appeared first on .
